For many years, Charlotte’s economy was largely driven by its very strong banking sector, which
today is represented by major employers such as Bank of America, Truist, and Wells Fargo. In
recent years, the Queen City has diversified its economic base and experienced strong growth
in technology, transportation, and trade. Charlotte has also become a hub for the booming
financial technology (fintech) industry.
